Yes. Every document type in ERPNext is automatically exposed through a REST API, and any event can trigger a webhook to an external system. On top of this, ready-made connectors exist for Shopify, WooCommerce, Amazon, Unicommerce, Razorpay, Stripe, PayPal, Plaid bank feeds, GST e-invoicing and e-Way Bill, Google Workspace, Slack, LDAP, and telephony providers. Anything else with an API can be connected through custom code or no-code platforms such as n8n, Zapier, or Make.
Key facts
- API coverage: 100 percent of doctypes, including custom ones, with no additional licence.
- Authentication: API key and secret, token, or OAuth 2.0.
- Integration styles supported: real-time API, event-driven webhooks, scheduled batch jobs, file import and export.
- Typical effort: 3 to 10 days for a standard connector, 10 to 30 days for a custom two-way integration.
What integration methods does ERPNext support?
How do common Indian business integrations work?
GST e-invoicing and e-Way Bill
Configured through the India Compliance app with API credentials. On invoice submission, the IRN and QR code are generated and printed on the invoice. No development required.
Bank payments and reconciliation
Payment entries can be exported in bank-specific bulk upload formats. Bank statements are imported and matched using the Bank Reconciliation Tool. Direct host-to-host or API banking with ICICI, HDFC, Axis, or Kotak is feasible through custom integration, subject to the bank’s corporate API onboarding.
Biometric attendance
Devices from eSSL, ZKTeco, and similar brands push punches to a middleware script, which posts to the Employee Checkin API in Frappe HR. Shifts and auto-attendance then process the data.
WhatsApp notifications
Invoices, payment reminders, and order confirmations are sent through a WhatsApp Business API provider using webhooks or a marketplace app. Template approval by Meta is required.
Tally
There is no maintained live connector. Common patterns are one-time migration of masters and balances, or a periodic export of vouchers from ERPNext for a statutory auditor who insists on Tally. Running both as parallel ledgers long term is not recommended.
CRM tools such as Salesforce, Zoho CRM, and HubSpot
Customers, contacts, and won opportunities sync into ERPNext as customers and sales orders; invoices and payment status flow back. Usually built through the API or an iPaaS tool.
Shop floor, weighbridges, and IoT
Machines or weighbridge software post readings to a custom API endpoint that creates or updates job cards, stock entries, or purchase receipts.
How should an integration be designed?
A reliable integration answers ten questions before any code is written:
- Which system is the master for each data object: customer, item, price, stock?
- What triggers the exchange: event, schedule, or user action?
- Is it one-way or two-way?
- What is the unique key for matching records?
- What is the expected volume and peak rate?
- What happens when the other system is down? Is there a retry queue?
- How are errors logged and who is alerted?
- How are duplicates prevented?
- How will the two systems be reconciled, and how often?
- Who owns the integration after go-live?
Design principles: use a dedicated integration user with least-privilege roles, process inbound loads through background jobs, log every request and response, make operations idempotent so retries do not create duplicates, and build a reconciliation report from day one.
What do integrations cost?
Frequently asked questions
Does ERPNext have an open API? Yes. A REST API covers every doctype, with authentication through API keys, tokens, or OAuth 2.0.
Can ERPNext integrate with Shopify? Yes. The Ecommerce Integrations app syncs products, orders, inventory, and fulfilment between Shopify and ERPNext.
Can ERPNext work with Zapier or n8n? Yes. Both can call ERPNext’s REST API and receive its webhooks. n8n is popular with self-hosting teams because it is also open source.
Can ERPNext integrate with my bank? Bank statement import and reconciliation are standard. Direct API banking is possible through custom integration with banks that offer corporate APIs.
Is there an extra charge for API usage? No. There are no API licences or indirect access fees. On Frappe Cloud, heavy API traffic consumes compute like any other usage.
Can ERPNext connect to Power BI? Yes, through the REST API, scheduled exports, or a direct connection to a database replica.
The bottom line
Integration is one of ERPNext’s structural advantages. The API is complete, free, and consistent. The work lies in designing integrations properly, with a clear system of record, error handling, and reconciliation.
